How to Calculate Your Division I

Core GPA

GPA Calculation Rules

The NCAA calculates GPAs differently than high schools. The NCAA is only concerned about core classes when calculating GPA. Division I universities have specific academic requirements, so refer to the NCAA D I Sliding Scale once you receive your Division I core GPA.

What are core classes?
  • Only English, math (algebra 1 or higher), science, social science, foreign language, comparative religion & philosophy are considered core NCAA classes.
  • Remedial & credit-by-exam classes are NOT considered core classes.

  • Non-core classes include: art, music, PE, typing, vocational training & personal finance. Visit NCAA Core Courses for more information.
